Wildlife Collision Awareness Social Media Campaign

The Wildlife Collision Prevention Program aims to reduce the number of wildlife-related accidents on roads by increasing public awareness through social media. The project involves creating a comprehensive social media package that effectively communicates the importance of wildlife collision prevention. Learners will research and develop engaging content tailored for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. The goal is to educate the public on safe driving practices in wildlife-prone areas and the impact of collisions on both humans and wildlife. This project will allow learners to apply their knowledge of digital marketing and content creation to a real-world issue, enhancing their skills in research, communication, and social media strategy.

Website Development

The Wildlife Collision Prevention Program (WCPP) was formed in 2001, as a partnership between the British Columbia Conservation Foundation (BCCF) and the Insurance Corporation of British Columbia (ICBC), in response to the increasing number and severity of wildlife vehicle collisions in BC. WCPP is administered by the BCCF, with funding and support from government agencies, crown corporations, and both public and private organizations. The intention of the WCPP is to make BC's highways safer for both people and wildlife. A major focus of the WCPP is to provide education and awareness for motorists on wildlife vehicle collision prevention.  We would like to work with students to update our existing website to improve the aesthetics, usability, and increase the number of site visits from the public. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Researching different site-building tools and their associated advantages / disadvantages. Conducting a needs analysis to determine which platform is most suitable. Building a website, with our assistance in providing the content. Providing training on updating and maintaining the website.
